COMBAT SCENARIOS: This year's Kingdom Rapier Championship will bring Dante’s Inferno to Lyondemere’s rapier field. Fighters will be entered into a round robin: The first round will be single sword, second round sword and buckler, third round sword and baton, fourth round sword and dagger, and fifth round Case. If more rounds are needed, we will start over with single sword, etc. The top two winners of the round robin will enter the semi-finals. The semi-finalists may choose whichever fighting style suits them best, as they have already survived the Inferno.

Cut & Thrust will also be a round robin (not following the Inferno rules).

SITE INFORMATION: Parking will be available onsite. Pavilions and day shades are welcome and may be staked to the ground as necessary. You may drive on the grass to unload: however please take care not to get your vehicle stuck in the grass.

DIRECTIONS: Take your favorite route to the 405 in Torrance (south of 405/105 and north of 405/110).

From the north, exit CA-107S Hawthorne Blvd (exit 42A). Continue south on Hawthorne for 2.5 miles. Turn right on Del Amo Blvd. In 0.5 miles, turn left on Anza Ave. In 2.2 miles, turn right on Calle Mayor. Continue for 0.3 miles - the school will be on your left. Enter the first driveway and proceed through the gates to the left.

From the south, take exit 39 for Crenshaw Blvd. Turn left onto 182nd St, then in 400 feet turn left onto Crenshaw Blvd and continue for 1.3 miles. Turn right onto Del Amo Blvd and continue for 2 miles, then turn left onto Anza Ave. Continue for 2.2 miles then turn right on Calle Mayor.
Continue for 0.3 miles - the school will be on your left. Enter the first driveway and proceed through the gates to the left.

Crown Tourney will be best 2 out of 3 per round. The final round will be 3 of 5 mixed weapons: 1st round – great weapon; 2nd round – sword and buckler; 3rd round – sword and shield; 4th round – single sword; 5th round – fighter’s choice.

The opportunity to submit a letter of intent has begun and will close on September 21 at 11 PM. Only letters submitted through the online form will be accepted.

Come join the Barony of Calafia at our “New Year’s Harvest” Anniversary event. Our theme this year is inspired by the Navajo season of Gháájí', which translates to “half” and describes the separation of seasons between Summer and Winter. This is not only our New Year with the rise of the first new moon, but also the end of the harvest season. We invite the populace to show off your harvest best and celebrate the beginning of Calafia’s new year with us!

COMBAT SCENARIOS: There will be competitions for Armored, Rapier, Cut & Thrust, and Youth combat, to select the Baronial Champions for the upcoming year.

We will not have Archery or Thrown Weapons at Anniversary this year - both of those competitions will instead be held during the Calafia Equestrian Championship event in December.

ACTIVITIES: Activities will include a Dirty Dozen competition, the ever-popular “Taste of Calafia” brewers competition, a mini-Archery range, and more! Details will be announced on the FB event page when available.

DIRTY DOZEN LARGESSE COMPETITION: There will be a Dirty Dozen Largesse Competition this year. The winner will be announced at closing court and prizes to be disseminated afterward. Each participant will be able to pick a prize in the order of their ranking. Entrants are advised to create 12 items based on a theme that is suitable for largesse. For example: 12 needle books, 12 hats from different (or the same) period(s), 12 items suitable for a specific time period, 12 children’s toys, etc. Note: items that traditionally are used in pairs should include twelve pairs, so 12 socks are not suitable as it is only 6 pairs. 

All entries should be tagged with the item type, artisan’s name and province, and be ready to be given the day of the competition. Items do not need to be documented as this is not an Arts and Sciences competition. Items should not have heraldry on them as they are meant to be presented in other areas. 

Judging will be done by the populace in the following manner: Each entrant display will have a cup placed next to it. During the event, anyone may put a provided token into the cup accompanying their choice. Once voting closes, and all votes have been tallied, the entrant with the most tokens in their cup gets the first choice of 3 items from any of the entries as a prize. Each subsequent entrant then chooses from the remaining entries in order, according to the popular vote. Each entry may only be chosen once as a prize. The remaining 11 items from each entry will be given to Their Excellencies for use as largesse.

TASTE OF CALAFIA:

Calafia's Anniversary is Saturday, October 10 and The Calafian Brewers Guild will be holding a "Taste of Calafia" in the same manner as was done at Potrero. All submissions need to be a fermented (Ales, Meads, Ciders, Etc.) or non-alcoholic drink, as this will ensure we meet the rules of the site. (No Cordials or mixed drinks). Minimum size should be at least 22oz or bigger. If you would like to submit a drink for the event please let me or Triona know so we can get an idea of the numbers and styles that will be offered. Please reach out with any questions.

CALAFIA ARCHERY: 

Calafia Archery is excited to welcome Order of the Mark Vigilant, Ronan de Bhal, as he hosts a special mini‑archery range booth as part of his wandering vigil. All ages are welcome to stop by and take a few shots on the mini range — no experience needed, just a smile and a willingness to have a bit of fun with our suction‑cup arrows and rubber‑band bows. It’s a perfect chance to share in the joy of archery and celebrate this wonderful moment with Vigilant Ronan.

LUNCH: 

Food will be prepared and provided by the Willie family clan and its matriarch. Lunch will feature a modern take on traditional homestyle foods eaten at this seasonal change. Vegetarian options will be offered, water will be available. Please bring your feast gear. $10 suggested donation. 

SITE INFORMATION/RESTRICTIONS: This is a damp site. Smoking, including vapes, is prohibited on park grounds. Pets are welcome but must be leashed at all times.

Shore Leave

This summer’s voyage being hot and hard, steer your vessel to Isles for a day of shore leave, before your crew maroons you to a short lifetime of it.  Join us beneath the coastal oaks at Tucker’s Grove Park, collect your pay (which comes with the site fee), and we’ll help you spend it.  Or just lay about in the shade.  It’s your shore leave.  There’s no need to haul canvas, as there’s nowhere to set it up, being as the trees and a tavern are already here.

The tavern will be well equipped with pie (lunch included), brews from local ports (a Caidan Brewer’s Guild tasting), board and brothel games, and plenty of tables.  Bring your favorite nautical songs and we’ll reward the best chanteyman (singers eat first).  Bring your swords and we’ll gamble on the fights.  Bring whatever amusements you will (bowls, kubb, tug of war) and we’ll wager on that too.  

Site Opens at 9am, and closes at 6pm.  Morning announcements/court will be at 10:30.

Directions: Make your way to Hwy 101, exit Turnpike Rd and follow Turnpike Rd inland until it dead-ends in the park. 10:00-ish am:     Tournaments will start, at Their Wintermist Excellencies pleasure.

15 minutes after start of Tournaments:     The other day’s activities begin including a Silent Auction.

1:00pm:     Gate Closes.

2:30pm:     Silent Auction will close.

3:00 pm:     Closing Court, for announcement of Champions.

6:00pm:     Site closes. Everyone must be off site by this time.

ARCHERY: Lists for archery will be run for Target Archery, both adult and youth, and Crossbow, adult only. Plans for Saturday are being made for competition novelty targets golf shoot, royal rounds, IKAC, and maybe more. Saturday night will be a fun Night Shoot, with glowing in the dark plans afoot.

On Sunday, Join Their Excellencies Alphonsus and Shego on the range as they search for their champions in Target Archery! Wintermist's target archery will be a few novelty targets, which will be determined with the help of Their Excellencies. Tournament will start at 10am or at Their Excellencies pleasure.

Marshals for Archers is THLord Henri Dumas, and HE Brig inghean Uateir.

THROWN WEAPONS: Thrown Weapons list is for both adult and youth. Saturday’s thrown weapons will be for the Caid Open using Royal Rounds, along with fun and light hearted activity after.

On Sunday, Join Their Excellencies Alphonsus and Shego on the range as they search for their champions in Thrown Weapons! Wintermist Thrown Weapons championship will likely be a royal round.  

Marshals for Thrown Weapons is HE Ragenald de Holecumb, and HE Brig inghean Uateir.

Want to do both archery and thrown weapons?  You absolutely can and should! 

OTHER RANGED ACTIVITIES: On Saturday, His Excellency Alphonsus will be demonstrating Rubber Band G*ns (RBG) using his collection of fine non-lethal weaponry, as used in the Rapier rules. This will be at his leisure on Saturday afternoon. 

Kuub and other ranged games will also be available for play.

ARTS AND SCIENCES: 

Nordwache A&S Competition Themes on Saturday, have been declared by Her Excellency Siri for this event:

• Adult: The Traveling Gentry
• Youth: The Traveling Gentry
• Cooking: Pleasant Preservation (Ingredients list required.) 
• Brewing: Pleasant Preservation 
• Bardic: Crossroads 
• Throw the theme out the window.  Item must have been made within 90 days of event.

Sunday, an Art Salon will be held for Her Excellency Shego, by Dame Joan S. Please bring your art to work on with the company of others, with treats, to the court area.

SILENT AUCTION: Wintermist Baronial fundraiser to be held on Sunday only. Please bring items to donate, if possible.
