Armored Combat

GWW 2021 Scenario List

Battlefield Setup & Tear Down: Volunteers are always needed for setup and tear down of the hay bale bridges and castles. Volunteering permits one to enter into the war early on Monday, October 4th. Contact Sir Valrik armored.steward@gww.sca-caid.org or at valrik@cox.net

Marshaling: The Marshal of the War, Sir Kara, requests that each Fighting Unit provide one Marshal for each day. Any authorized fighter may be used as a Marshal, however this marshal does not need to be one of the unit’s fighters, and may be signed up as an MIT (Marshal in Training) at the event. If we have no marshals, or help with hay bales, we cannot run our scenarios. Remember, you do not have to be a fighter to be a Marshal! Check in at Marshal Point if interested.

Water Bearing: Volunteers are needed to help with Water Bearing for fighters each day. Anyone is welcome to help bring water/Gatorade/pickle juice to the fighters, as we will have bottles and bags for people to carry and distribute. Each fighting unit is encouraged to bring at least one flat of water for each fighter just to be safe. All water bearing occurs at the water bearing tent/point. This is located next to the armor inspection point, adjacent to the parking lot.

Armor Inspection: Inspections start at 9:30 AM Thursday, Friday, and Saturday morning and will happen at the Marshal Point before any fighting begins. Combat Archery (CA) inspection starts at 9:00 AM so CA can have extra time to check their ammunition. Any fighter found with substandard armor will be ejected from the field until they have corrected the problem, they are the free to get re-inspected for the remainder of the weekend.

Weapons Inspection: Starts at 9:30 AM Thursday, Friday, and Saturday morning at Marshal’s Point (if someone needs an inspection on Sunday they should find the BattleMaster/Valrik or Earl Marshall/Sir Kara). ALL pole weapons must be inspected and marked prior to entering the Field. All combat arrows must conform to current Caidan rules. Combat Archery (CA) inspection starts at 9:00 AM so CA can have extra time to check their ammunition. CA will adhere to Caidan rules. No experimental arrows will be used at this War. Our CA Marshal in Charge is Lady Ceolwynn of Galtris (combatarcherysiege@sca-caid.org) ; she will answer particular questions regarding CA.

Combat Archery

  • Combat Archery (CA) will be allowed in Open Field Battles 1-3. Open Field Battles 4 & 5 cannot allow CA because of the chance for projectiles to fly into spectators/parking lot/water bearers. CA is on Bridge Battles 1 & 3, and both castle battles.
  • During bridge battles CA will only be able to fire while they are on the bridge. They will not be allowed to fire from the sides onto the bridge.
  • During Castle Battles archers can only fire through the openings (the main gate and sally ports). They cannot fire over the castle walls.
  • There will be very little time between battles for arrow inspection. There will be time between each set of battles. Make sure you have enough arrows.
  • If there are large amount of CA on one side, it might be necessary to balance the number of CAs per side. We request that CAs work with the Marshallate and the Fighting Autocrat to accommodate attempts at balance.
  • There might be restrictions on CA fields of fire during the castle battle, this will be determined by Marshallate and BattleMaster after the castle is constructed.

Siege Artillery

  • Siege weapons will be allowed for most battles.
  • The placement of siege pieces will be done in review with the Marshalls and the BattleMaster, before each set of battles. This is for safety and fairness.
  • Siege weapons will have no effect on the walls of the castle.

Pick Up Fighting

· There will be room around the bridges & castles for pick up fights until the general battles move that direction.

· Pick Up fights can move onto the open battlefield when the bridges & castles are being used for the scenarios.

· Once scenarios are completed each day the battlefields will be free for pick up fights at your leisure.
