Armored Combat
Every week we have armored combat practice on Sunday from 12:00 until 3:30 on the Keel Ave side of Via Marina Park in Oxnard. The purpose is to learn and progress your skills, to prepare you for Tournaments at regular events. This form of combat puts you in an armored suit, whether it be leather, chain, or plate. And has styles such as sword and shield, great weapon, or florentine. Join the facebook group to ask ahead for things like loaner armor.
Rapier/Fencing Combat
Every week we have rapier combat practice on Sunday from 12:00pm until 3:30pm on the South-West corner of Via Marina Park in Oxnard. The purpose is to learn historical techniques and progress your skills, to prepare you for Tournaments at regular events and to have fun. This form of fighter practice combat puts you in a linen doublet and fights with a Steel Rapier blade, focusing in thrusts. Join the facebook group to ask ahead for things like loaner armor.
Archery
Our sister Barony, Altavia, has a practice on the 1st, 3rd and occasional 5th Sunday of the month. They meet from 11:30am-3:00pm, at Woodley Park archery range, Contact Altavia’s Captain of Archers for more information
Youth Combat
In the SCA youth may be permitted to fight, as long as they are old enough to take direction, and up to the ages of 16. Once they become 16 they can promote to Armored or Rapier combat. Practice is as needed, and at the same locations as the Armored and Rapier practices. An adult must be present for minors to participate. Join the facebook group for more details
Equestrian
Equestrian Practices are the third Sunday of each month, starting in February 2024 and weather permitting. Location is Conejo Creek Equestrian Center: 1350 E Avenida De Las Flores, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360. The purpose is to learn and progress your skills, to prepare you for Tournaments at regular events. Check the Darach / Altavia Facebook group to confirm the horses will be there.
Council
This is a once a month get together where we discuss Shire upcoming events and affairs. We follow a published agenda and the meeting usually lasts about an hour. It is encouraged that all Darach Shire officers attend the council or send an absentee report. The meeting is open to everyone to attend.
