News from the Crier

February 2025

Hello Altavia!

Thank you everyone who came out to our last arts and sciences night, hosted by Baroness Amabel. We did pewter casting, and everyone got a chance to cast fantasy and Altavia/CAID coins in molds that she prepared for the class. Everyone had a lot of fun and went home with coins that they got to pour and clean up. We also got to see and learn about soapstone molds from Eleanora, who brought one of her hand carved molds to show us and talk about.

We had a fantastic weekend the next week with both unbelted in Gyldenholt, and Consorts Champion Ranged hosted by Lyondemere.

Unbelted was a great, high energy tournament day, with knights and unbelted alike ready to go, and enjoying the day of learning, teaching and stepping up their game.

It was especially nice to see some of our Altavians get out on the armored field, and others drive down to support the tournament by consorting, marshalling and chatellaning. The new park location had tons of foot traffic and hopefully we will get some new recruits in from the day.

At Consorts champion ranged, we were greeted bright and early by rain, but also archers galore! I was excited to see the fantastic turnout of our ranged community in spite of the wet cold weather.

The day brought many fantastic moments, first among them our very own Cecilia de Medici receiving her Chiron for her excellence and service in the thrown weapons community. This was so well deserved, and a joy to be able to welcome her with so many of her fellow Chirons present at our home field.

In addition, seeing some of our regulars from the Altavia archery practice receive awards was wonderful. Gideon of Lyondemere sung a song he composed about archers and the Order of the Chiron, and then immediately received his harp Argent. He was also the top hunter in the 3d Kings hunt shoot. Merlin Wynn won the crossbow bearpit with the most wins. His Excellency Broc continued his practice of choosing his champions and chose our own Baroness Amabel as his Archery Champion.

Continuing with the archery theme, the next weekend we had our Baronial archery practice, and got new people to try out the SSAC (Society seasonal archery challenge), getting 2 people who had never tried it scores, 2 others new personal bests, and 2 people to have Period scores. An excellent day of shooting and progress.

We finished up with Angle’s melee, with tons of fighting for both Rapier and Armored combat. We had a lot of Altavians on the rapier field, playing with many creative scenarios, ending up with them in boats, crossing rivers and gathering gold. Our Baron Griffith and Fáelán represented us on the armored field, worth teams merging and dividing, circulating through the teams and getting the chance to fight with and against everyone.

Thank you all for joining us for a wonderful, busy month, and we look forward to the next one!

Hello Altavia!

This last month was a busy one, with our joint Angles / Altavia Yule, which was a great success, with much cheer and celebration. A hearty congratulations to all our new champions. We had Saystine win both the table decorating contest and the entrée of the food competition with her Cranberry meatballs Serafina won the dessert portion of the food competition dessert with her cheesecake. The new Altavia games champion is Tezar, and our very own Merlin and Colwyn are co-champions for the chess champion.

We started off the new year with a lovely Coronation, welcoming in our new Kings, Valentine and Brocc, and are very excited to see what this reign brings. We ran right into Consorts champion for Rapier, Cut and thrust and armored, which we hosted. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day run smoothly.

We hope everyone gets through the current fire and emergency situations safely, and encourage anyone to reach out if they need any assistance.

Hello Altavia!

The last month was a month of Baronial Anniversaries, tournaments and champions, and this upcoming month is one of Yules and celebrations to come!

Our cousins in Naevehjem, and Isles celebrated their anniversaries, and Calafia had their archery and Equestrian championships. Our very own Merlin became the archery champion for both Naevehjem and Calafia!

For arts and sciences night, Caterina hosted a delicious event where she served Egyptian duck, made from a historical recipe.

We started off the Holidays at Medieval Marketplace in Darach and enjoyed a lovely day shopping, socializing, sparring, playing games and singing.

Speaking of celebrating, our knight vigilant, Lady Eichling came out to celebrate her birthday with us at practice, and as you might expect, her wish for the day was to spar, and we had a bunch of local fighters and guests out to give her a proper celebration.

We look forward to all the upcoming Yules, and love you all.
